Laurens County has a potential labor pool just under 35,000 people. Commuters both into and out of Laurens County provide a prime source of labor, a testament to the strength of the area’s economy. Laurens County attracts more than 3,700 employees from outside the County annually.

High-quality, educational facilities and institutions provide the business community with a work force that is skilled on all levels. Our South Carolina State "Blue Ribbon" designated, county public school system is complemented by the Laurens County Higher Education Center. This 39,000 square foot facility opened in April 2002 to serve students residing in Laurens County and to provide a home to Piedmont Technical College, USC-Union and the Laurens County Adult Education organization. Students at this facility have the opportunity to take part in credit or non-credit courses in a traditional classroom setting, via satellite or two-way video. They also have access to many student services including financial aid, placement testing, career counseling, registration, and library services. Collegiate and public school officials have established relationships with corporate leaders, resulting in the creation of curricula relevant to the needs of the business community.

Location and Transportation Convenience

South Carolina’s largest airport, Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, is less than 45 minutes from Laurens County. GSP is located 12 miles northwest of the city in Greenville and has connections to major airports such as Chicago O’Hare, Philadelphia, Newark and Dulles and Reagan National Airports in Washington, D.C. Charlotte Douglas and Columbia Metropolitan Airports, both a short drive from Laurens County, provide convenient air travel as well.

Laurens County facilities include a general aviation airport to service the county’s air traffic. The Laurens County Airport, which was renovated in 1992, offers service to turbo props and business jets. Private and corporate aircraft use the 3,900-foot paved runway. Other services offered by the airport are hangar rental spots, maintenance and fuel service.

Rail service to Laurens County is provided by CSX Transportation, with the company’s main line passing directly through Clinton. The Carolina Piedmont division of South Carolina Central Railroad operates a 34.4-mile rail system between Laurens and Greenville that runs parallel to I-385.

For those in need of transportation by sea, the Port of Charleston is 168 miles from Laurens County and easily accessible via I-26. The Port of Charleston is the fifth largest facility of its kind in the United States and is the second largest container port on the East Coast.
